We want to thank all of you for a great first week!  It has been awesome seeing our Trailblazers back in the building, and seeing them learn the new procedures, routines, and daily “flow” of their new classes, and, for our 3rd graders, to learn about their new school.  We are looking forward to a fantastic year at LCE!

iReady Math Diagnostic: We start the math diagnostic this week. What is i-Ready? i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.

Teachers will be sharing with students the following:

  • The test is adaptive. A series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.

  • The Diagnostic assumes students will not know the answer to every question. The teacher will explain to students that it is OK to not know every answer. They just need to try their best.

  • The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade.

To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:

  • Get a good night’s sleep and eat a full breakfast the day of the assessment.

  • Try their best on each question and try not to rush.

  • Try not to worry about questions to which they do not know the answers—remind them that it is expected that they will only get about half of the questions correct.

  • Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish.

  • Use paper and pencil to show work for math questions.

The i-Ready Diagnostic will provide results that help identify your child’s strengths and determine next steps for instruction. I look forward to sharing these results with you throughout the year and providing a learning experience that will engage your child while teaching important skills and concepts.

If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact me or the school. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter

Club Handbook and Sign-Ups: Mr. Brodbeck will be sending out the Club Handbook and Signup forms electronically again this year, and these will go out on Friday of this week.  These are “first come first serve.”  For any questions about clubs, please contact Mr. Brodbeck at cbrodbeck@fz.k12.mo.us and he would be happy to assist!

MAP Testing Individual Score Reports: We will be sending home Individual Score Reports from the 2024-25 MAP assessment by Tuesday.  Keep in mind that a standardized test score is one piece of information and does not define any Trailblazer, for better or worse.  I am excited to share that our percentage of students scoring “Proficient” or “Advanced” increased in all three assessed areas from 2024 to 2025!  We are moving in the right direction at LCE!

Parent Pickup/Dismissal: For those of you who pick up your Trailblazer, it would be helpful if you would display your parent pickup tag in the passenger’s side window or on the dashboard on the passenger side.  This will speed up our scanning process and hopefully get us finished a few minutes earlier.  We appreciate your patience and help with this process - it’s a hard job sending 850 Trailblazers and Panther Cubs home the right way!

Required Parental Notifications: School districts in Missouri are required to annually notify parents, students, and guardians of important information about federal laws and state education mandates, as well as information relating to the rights and responsibilities of parents or guardians of children. The attached information packet includes the required notifications for the 2024 - 2025 school year and can also be accessed online at fz.k12.mo.us in the menu under Parents/Students/Alumni
