It's one of our favorite days of the year - Reading Buddies with JL Mudd! This morning third graders went to read with kindergartners, all other grades will participate this afternoon. Reading Buddies allows us to build community with our K-2 friends and gives students a chance to practice reading fluency and reading with expression in a very meaningful setting.

Our early release day provided teachers with dedicated time to collaborate within their Professional Learning Communities (PLC) and engage in an in-depth exploration of math instruction. During this time, teachers worked together to address two key questions: What do we want all students to know and be able to do? and How will we assess their learning? They analyzed math standards and identified clear learning targets to guide their instruction.

What happens when students set goals, make a plan and track progress? They achieve! Jennifer Douglas’ fourth graders set a goal as to how much they would raise to contribute to the school-wide fundraiser. Mrs. Douglas added the incentive of pieing her in the face and they exceeded their goal by about 15 percent! So, as the temperatures dropped Tuesday, her class celebrated the short week and a goal achieved. #FZEquipToExcel
