Monthly Update from Dr Keltner

Parents and Students:

December is here and we’re nearing the end of first semester!  I am fascinated with the great things occurring each day at FZS and the traditions that have been established here.  Here are some highlights to share.

This past month our students and faculty honored a number of veterans of our Armed Forces during a celebration and breakfast provided for them in recognition of Veterans Day.  Led by students and teachers in our drama and music departments, this was the 27th year we’ve hosted this event, which is one of our most popular traditions. Our visitors enjoyed breakfast and then were entertained by performances from our drama and music students. Seeing our veterans on campus as we honored them for their service is a great example of the support and pride that exist in the FZS community.

Again this year our students worked hard and demonstrated incredible generosity during our Thanksgiving No Hunger Holiday food drive.  As part of this event, our students collected more than 460 turkeys to donate to local charities. I am always amazed by the great work our students do as they help an untold number of others through their efforts.

In addition to our Veterans Day and No Hunger Holiday efforts, the success of our varsity boys soccer team is becoming an established November tradition at FZS!  Congratulations to Coach Jim Layne and our varsity boys soccer team on capturing the Class 3 MSHSAA State Soccer Championship a few weeks ago! This championship marked the third time in the past four years that our varsity boys soccer team has earned this honor, and the second year in a row. We’re incredibly proud of them!

Your support is a fundamental part of our continued success, and I remain thankful and impressed at the things that are accomplished each day by our students as we continue a tradition of excellence. Best wishes for a relaxing and wonderful holiday season!

Sincerely,

Kevin Keltner, Ed.D.
